Nĭ hăo!

I haven’t written a blog since 2011, so here’s a catch up in less than 200 words… After I came back from teaching in Vienna, I had a crack at having a grown-up job in the real world. Unsurprisingly, I hated it. I went away to teach in Sweden for a few months. Unsurprisingly, I loved it. I decided English teaching was probably a good route for me to take. I did a TESOL course and planned to move abroad again. Then I met a boy. He wasn’t the travelling type. I made an uncharacteristically selfless decision and put my far-flung plans on hold. I got another grown-up job. I still hated it. Then, one rainy day in March, he told me he hated his grown-up job too. “Quit!” says I, assuming he’d say no, because reckless behaviour is not what he does. “Leave your boring grown-up job and run away with me. We can have an adventure!”. Rather unexpectedly, he agreed! He got a TESOL certificate. We handed in our notice at our grown-up jobs. We’ve even left our flat and moved in with a friend in order to save more money for the trip.

Most importantly, we’ve actually been offered jobs in China. We’re going to Jinan which is the capital city of Shandong Province. You can find out more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jinan. We’re going to be working at a school with young children (3-12 year olds. Everybody say “awwwwwww!”). As it stands, we don’t have a leaving date, but it will hopefully be in the next month. At the moment, the school are in the process of getting us an invitation letter, which means we can get our visas, book our flights and go!

This blog is the place to be if you want to stay up to date with daily goings on and Chinese adventures. I’m pretty sure it will be an excellent year, but if not, I’ll just have to JINAN BEAR IT!
